Rachel Ray’s Dog Food brand, Nutrish, sued over containing glyphosate (lawn chemicals) contamination claims…

Rachel Ray’s Dog Food, Nutrish, is marketed as being free of “[No] artificial flavors or artificial preservatives” and being a “Natural food for dogs”. The company Nutrish was previously manufactured by, Ainsworth Pet Nutrition, but was recently bought by J.M. Smucker Company for nearly $2 billion. Court documents state that a Bronx resident, Markeith Parks, claims that Rachel Rays ‘natural’ food is false, deceptive, and misleading.

Markeith Parks law suit states that “The products at issue are not ‘natural.’ Instead, the products contain the unnatural chemical glyphosate, a potent biocide and endocrine disruptor, with detrimental health effects that are still becoming known.” Court papers claim glyphosate, the active ingredient used in weed killers, was found in tests done by an independent lab. Therefore, glyphosate is a herbicide used in brands like Roundup and is, by any means, not safe to ingest. In 2015, the “World Health Organization classified glyphosate as a probable carcinogenic to humans and animals. Additional studies have linked Roundup to non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma or NHL, a cancer that begins in the cells of the lymphatic and immune system.”[1] There are new studies, as well of reports of health problems of those that with long-term exposure to Roundup and related products containing glyphosate.

Bobby Modi, vice president of pet food and pet snacks for J.M. Smucker Company, plans to ‘aggressively fight these claims’ because “As animal lovers and humans, it goes without saying that we do not add pesticides to our products as an ingredient.”

We believe, it goes without saying that J.M. Smuckers Company are not producing NON-GMO foods and you are not analyzing your ingredients.

The lawsuit states that the source of the glyphosate in the canine chow isn’t known to Parks, but speculates that “crops such as peas, soy, corn, beets and alfalfa are sprayed with the chemical in order to dry them and produce an earlier, more uniform harvest. By deceiving consumers about the nature, quality, and/or ingredients of the products, Rachael Ray Nutrish is able to sell a greater volume of the products.” This gross negligent of quality control is blatantly apparent and is the source deadly path of the horrific inclusion of melamine poisoning which caused the deaths of countless thousands of pets only 11 years ago. More than 150 animal foods were recalled for containing melamine and an uncountable amount of pets died from melamine poisoning, as a result of kidney failure after ingesting the food.[2]

At Cornucopia, we have never had any recalls, and we pride ourselves on having wholesome and natural dog food. See the difference at https://www.cornucopiapetfoods.com/collections/dogs

Let's all notice who owns Rachel Ray, the Smucker Company. Rachel Ray sold Nutrish to them for $2 billion in Spring of 2018.

The Smuckers Company has had 19 brands of Pet Food recalled since February 19, 2018 for containing pentobarbital; a euthanasia solution. This provides evidence that euthanized dead animals are in the pet food. The FDA confirmed the presence of pentobarbital on March 2, 2018.[3]

The only people known, to us by federal law, to possess these lethal and toxic controlled substances are veterinarians.

Symptoms of a Pet That Eats Food Containing Pentobarbital…

Pets that consume pet food containing high levels pentobarbital can experience the following: drowsiness, dizziness, excitement, loss of balance, nausea, mystagmus (eyes moving back and forth in a jerky manner), and inability to stand. Coma and death are the results of consuming high levels of pentobarbital.

Amy - Aug 13, 2018

I am so glad you shared this well-cited article and information! This is exactly what happened to my miniature schnauzer. We didn’t know why our 8-year-old dog would be this sick.

We thought he might have days left. We cried SO MUCH watching him suffering. It was emotionally painful witnessing his state. I couldn’t bear to photograph him at the “end.” He got worse. I sent videos of him experiencing nystagmus to our vet. His liver enzymes were near 1,000.

Our vet mentioned RR was not a good balance of nutrition. I’d moved him to some “natural foods” due to his gas issues. No grain. When our brand disappeared from the shelves, we switched to Rachel Ray’s grain-free food. I’m a little embarrassed because I’m knowledgeable about nutrition. I help people with food choices and label reading. I was shocked to learn of the pending lawsuit, the massive amount of stories and then to see your article. I guess we have an answer, and thank God, our dog is on the mend!

My dog had all the symptoms of poisoning by pentobarbital.
