Dog Food Recall Due to Elevated Levels of Vitamin D

Dogs ingesting elevated levels of Vitamin D may exhibit symptoms such as: vomiting, loss of appetite, increased thirst, increased urination, excessive drooling and weight loss.

Vitamin D when consumed at very high levels can lead to serious health issues in dogs including renal dysfunction.

Consumers with dogs who have consumed the product listed above are exhibiting these symptoms, should immediately contact their veterinarian.

FDA Recalls Top Quality Dog Food's "Beef HVM" that can cause an infection in animals as well as humans who handle the food.*

The recall as issued when testing revealed traces of salmonella and listeria monocytogenes.

Owners infected with salmonella can experience nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abnormal cramping and fever. In some cases, salmonella can result in more serious ailments.

While listeria monocytogenes infections are uncommon in pets. they can still happen. Pets with infections may experience mild to severe diarrhea, anorexia, fever, nervous, muscular, and respiratory signs, abortion, depression, shock and even death.

Listeria can also pose "serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, vulnerable or elderly people and others with compromised immune systems, the recall said. (* Source: USFDA)
