Wild-Caught Fish vs. Farm-Raised Fish
What is the big deal with using wild-caught fish as opposed to farm-raised fish? There are countless reasons, ranging from environmental to nutritional, as to why someone may not support a fish farm. But, here’s why you should avoid farm-raised fish altogether, especially when considering what to feed your pet:
This is why Cornucopia Pet Foods are made with only wild-caught fish such as salmon and sardines. We don’t believe in including ingredients such as farm-raised fish, especially if it’s not the healthiest option. Your cat or dog’s health is our main priority!
- They can be raised in filthy and crowded environments which then often requires the use of antibiotics to prevent disease.
- Farm-raised salmon can have color added to it because without coloring added the flesh would be grey. Wild salmon ingest a lot of small shrimp and krill which have natural astaxanthin giving it its beautiful orangey/pink hue.
- Fish pellets can be made from ingredients from the poultry processing industry, such as innards, feathers and even chicken poop.
- Fish pellets can contain GMOs, therefore the fish produced contain GMOs.
- Fish farms can create extreme pollution that pollutes the local environment, and causes oxygen levels to lower.
- Farmed fish have more of the unhealthy kind of oils called Omega 6, instead of the healthy Omega 3’s, thereby negating one of the most touted health benefits of eating fish in the first place.
- On the other hand, wild-caught fish is typically fresher, caught in their natural environments, and rich with Omega 3’s unlike farm-raised fish.
This is why Cornucopia Pet Foods are made with only wild-caught fish such as salmon and sardines. We don’t believe in including ingredients such as farm-raised fish, especially if it’s not the healthiest option. Your cat or dog’s health is our main priority!

Thank you for this food!!
My dogs consumed this food over 12 years ago and to be quite frank, I rarely saw the vet. I spent thousands until I met Dr. Broderick and BAM the dogs skin condition changed dramatically. I highly recommend it.
